Las Hurdes, a region similar to los Arribes but in the province of Cáceres (Spain) inside the Tajo watershed, with singular geomorphology and peculiar toponymy

Abstract

Comarca montañosa del N de la provincia de Cáceres que posee una geomorfología derivada de una antigua superficie de aplanamiento, conservada ampliamente en Los Llanos del Convento y otros retazos, y que mantiene por ello un elevado índice de sinuosidad de los ríos. Ello conlleva una máxima fragosidad del terreno. Así mismo, mantiene unos arcaísmos topónimos entre los que destacan los compuestos del «arro».

ABSTRACT

Northern mountain region at the Spanish province of Cáceres, having a geomorphology evolved from an old etchplain which is widely maintained at the place called «Los Llanos del Convento» and at several other remains, and therefore with a high meandering index at the rivers. This explains the extreme land roughness. On the other hand, archaic compound words from the root «arro» stand out inside its toponymy.
