El Atlas Nacional de España del siglo XXI: la continuidad de un proyecto institucional

Resumen

El Atlas Nacional de España (ANE) es un proyecto institucional del que es responsable el Instituto Geográfco Nacional. Su carácter institucional viene defnido por la vigencia de los objetivos que animaron su nacimiento y han seguido activos en su ya larga vida, por la obligada prestación de un servicio público ampliamente demandado, por la multifuncionalidad de sus productos que satisface a diversos y variados usuarios potenciales, por el necesario despliegue de la cooperación científco–técnica, y por una clara atemporalidad que no limita su razón de ser a un tiempo determinado. El ANE vivió unos prolegómenos sin aparentes resultados en los primeros decenios del siglo veinte, le siguió un tiempo de juventud a mediados de la anterior centuria, una madurez en los años de tránsito hacia el tercer milenio y, desde 2011, afronta una fase que se ha dado en llamar de continuidad.

ABSTRACT

The National Atlas of Spain (ANE) is an institutional project for which the National Geographic Institute is responsible. Its institutional character is defned by the validity of the objectives that inspired its birth and have remained active throughout its long life, by the obligatory provision of a widely deman-ded public service, by the multifunctionality of its products that satisfes diverse and varied potential users, by the necessary deployment of scientifc–technical cooperation, and by a clear timelessness that does not limit its raison d’être to a specifc time. The ANE underwent some prolegomena without apparent results in the frst decades of the twentieth century, followed by a period of youth in the middle of the previous century, maturity in the years of transition towards the third millennium and, since 2011, it has been facing a phase that has been called a phase of continuity.
